हे महाबाहु अर्जुन! सत्त्व, रज और तम—ये तीनों गुण प्रकृति से उत्पन्न होते हैं।
ये तीनों ही अविनाशी आत्मा को शरीर में बाँध देते हैं।
English Translation
O mighty-armed Arjuna, the three qualities—Sattva (goodness), Rajas (passion), and Tamas (ignorance)—are born of material nature. They bind the imperishable soul to the body.
